I have not yet read the articles by Dan Williams that he was referring to, but the concept of ‘elite radicalization’ makes good sense and seems to explain how extreme views are propagated via social media. I think you should take encouragement that many of the thoughtful decisions you have made with micro.blog would effectively dampen down the spread of toxic ideas within this community – avoiding follower counts and any ‘retweet’ mechanism, staying away from algorithmic timeline control, the things you discuss in your book (which I am learning a lot from by the way). Maintaining a healthy community is becoming increasingly important, as the Charlie Kirk shooting shows that extreme ideas can lead to extreme actions.
