Pray for your kids – faith

I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.(2 Timothy 1:5 ESV)

The best place to start in praying for our children is to ask God to give them faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6), yet even faith is a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8). However, it would also seem that in some way faith can be ‘passed down’ in a family, in 2 Timothy 1:5 it appears to have been found first in the grandmother, then in Timothy’s mother, and he ‘inherited’ it from her.

So, while a Christian parent has no guarantee their children will all walk with Christ, it certainly helps and I pray earnestly that each of my own children will have the gift of faith to trust in Jesus as their Savoir.

I must also be diligent to teach them about Jesus so they know in whom they are putting their trust.

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
(Deuteronomy 6:4-7 ESV)
