Into all the world

Shan-Tai prayer month, day 17

Shan young people are often keen to learn English as it opens opportunities to study and work abroad. Some of these people have learned English from Christians and are drawing near to believing when they move far away from the evangelistic influence. However, this has the potential to work both ways – there are plenty of Christians in some of the places the Shan young people move to seeking employment and education so if those Christians reach out to the Shan coming to their cities the evangelistic effort can be maintained.

This topic has been on my mind over the last week because I live in a university town which annually draws thousands of Asian young people as students, some of whom may be Shan. I don’t know how to go about contacting any of these people or what to say if I did, but it seems that God not only calls folks to go as missionaries, but also calls unbelievers out of difficult to reach places into areas with existing Christian churches as another way to reach a people group. The influx of ‘foreigners’ should be a magnificent opportunity to reach out with the gospel.

Pray for:
  • God to continue to reach students who have left Burma and use them to reach their own people  (Jeremiah 1:4–8).
  • God to call people to specific countries to reach the Shan  (Matthew 9:37–38).
