Shan-Tai prayer month, day 12
A culture that has existed for thousands of years is struggling to cope and adjust to disruptions of its values and traditions within the span of only a couple of generations. There are elements of all cultures that maintain order and social structure and as such are part of God’s ‘common grace’ to all peoples. As the young and working age Shan people move away from traditional village life seeking employment and education they find themselves adrift and cut loose from their usual constraints and identity, leaving them very vulnerable to ‘modern’ vices such as alcohol, materialism, drugs and prostitution.
- Openness to the Gospel amoung the elderly and those in Shan State (Mark 4:20).
- The Shan, as they encounter new modern ways, to encounter God and desire Him more than the pleasures of this world (Philippians 3:8).
